the solubility factor is so extreme between the 2 that as soon as the PPT forms (in an instant) it can and WILL "lock in" impurities, there is Very little you can do about this beyond repeated dissolving and precipitating out again until the trace impurities are so dilute as to be negligible.
so Ideally it`s best to start with the correct salt or the free acid itself and save yourself a load of faffing!
