Is it possible to reduce the number of letters required in the search facility on this forum? If so it would be great. I am trying to do a search on topics with PVC but need 4 letters for a search string.

Unfortunately the MySQL database we use by default does not fulltext index strings under of three or less characters. Because using indexes is more efficient than non-index searches it is unfortunately not possible to search for short strings.

OK found elsewhere and c/pasted into here

The best way to search this site (IMHO) is to go to google and type your search keywords (or phrase) and include site:pyrosociety.org.uk behind it. This will get you around the short word problem, allow you to use advanced search techniques, and it is faster.

Someone else try it as well please, see if it is as good as it seems.

Added;
Yes it happily searches two and three letter words :)

Appears that you can search any specific site by adding a space then "site:" then the name of the site if you use google. Also you can set this up as a saved special search to save on keystrokes each time.
