is the bps still accepting new members?, i have filled in the online form a couple of times but heard nothing

I believe the UKPS is still accepting requests for membership packs, but as they are only sent out every so often it may take a bit before you recieve your pack.

The Society (now known as the UKPS) is accepting registrations, yes. Please PM me with your address so I can check that a pack has been sent out. As of a couple of weeks ago, all requests have been processed and sent out.

I have talked this morning with the HSE regarding the possibility of an amateur club for firework builder. They where very helpful and kind and will send me relevant information regarding the subject. Yes, I gave them my home address. They are real people that distinguish between B**mbs and firework and are willing to explain the required regulation.

A manufacturing license in this country cost about 600?, requires a minimal facility for storage and separate building for actual construction, and an area to do it on. There are also other costs such as insurance, council permit and so on ? but if 50 of us want to create such a club, I see it within our financial capabilities to start organising and becoming legal. The license is indefinite as long as there is no change in circumstances.

Even better if one of the member lives in a farm and does not mind allocating some area for the purpose.

Hi there BIG G I am very new to your forum , and at the rist of sounding NIEVE I belive in principal this sounds just the ticket,!!!

At least the powers that be ( the home office ) can see that people want to be recognised to be doing the right thing ie, seeking legitimacy. in our interests / hobby/ passion. and would give them an idea as to where we are ? and our intentions. what do you think .?

I belive that if people are open about their intentions etc ,this should defuse the situation as regards worrying about the knock on the door etc ! !

As I see it the biggest problem is abuse of imformation , ie nutters that want to cause harm to others b-o-o-m !!!!
I think unfortunataly what ever you do to stop these fanatics thay will always find a way to get there way .

why should the minority stop the freedom of others IE Pyrotecnitions, not sure about that word but you get the jist.?

After all whots the point of having a democracy if it fails because of paranoia ?

Now then chaps, as you know I am new to the forum. I will be paying up my subs shortly to become a "proper" member.

So has any progress been made towards finding a home for construction/testing. The reason I ask is I tested a composition in my star gun tonight and although it was safe, instead of firing with a bit of a bump there was a big F@@k off floor shaking and window rattling bang which I am certain has probably annoyed the neighbors (along with bending the base of my star gun).

Hence one very very high rate GF threatening to pour all my chemicals down the drain, so the sooner I can find a better place for mixing/testing the better.

So is there any new news yet on a home or homes for the UKPS?

too much bp, around 4 grams and a 20mm star, which I think was overly tight in the tube as there was no evidence of it exiting, also I think my star may have been a little on the fast burning side (bp based star) which may have broken down and exploded in the tube. I have learn't a lesson, but I think I will have to find somewhere else for testing.

Funnily enough we are on the verge of making an important announcement about this. I have been busy with the vice-chair Adam, and the upshot is, we expect to announce that licensed workshops for use by the membership will be available shortly.

I am awestruck! This is amazing. How did you manage the legalities? Sorry, you probably have a thousand other questions to be answered about this - I will wait until the full announcement.

I can't go into details yet, but the crux of the matter is that there are some unused workshops at a licensed manufacturing facility in the East Midlands. The owner is keen for us to renovate these, and it is entirely possible that members would be able to make use of them once a suitable framework is established. The site itself has had a long history of explosives manufacture and the specific building(s) in question are purpose built.
