Do we know if these were hand pressed only or on a press?

Looks only to be lightly tamped. There is a layer of coarse wood shavings in the base which would make it pretty hard to compact. I suspect it was loaded damp, red gum keeping it together. There is a resin or red gum layer at the top that has been well wetted and this keeps everthing in place.
