Following a point made by someone on the consumer fireworks board, I do think it would be useful to make clear a policy about "adverts."

One of the useful things about the Consumer Fireworks board is that people can share and compare places where they are buying fireworks, including addresses and websites. Most of the comments on the board are honest comments from enthusiasts, which is a good, useful discussion. It can be very helpful for people to share information and find out about shops and brands.

That said, there are always potential problems with people potentially joining and posting JUST to hype/promote a shop, which is a little unfair and misleading. (As of yet, however, that doesn't seem to have been a problem)

OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

The policy is quite simple. We will be welcoming reputable suppliers to have a paid presence on the site / forums. If you are not a paid advertiser then adverts are not permitted. I have no issue with members rating or reviewing suppliers unless it is clear that their opinions are biased or there is a conflict of interest, i.e. they are connected with a business and have not made it public knowledge.

As a suggestion, I think it might also be useful if there was a policy, or a "gentlemans agreement" that firework retailers don't make critical comments about other businesses, especially as the nature of such criticism is often very subjective. There was one fairly direct post recently in which a retailer basically said don't go to this shop, come to mine .

Is it OK to mention sales/offers etc in a thread (or start a thread about such offers) without a direct link? I have done that a few times in the past, however if this is not allowed then I will avoid doing so in the future.

It seems like many chemicals are hard to get hold of for you folks in the UK, so that's another reason to allow naming chemical suppliers. ;)

OK...there are two statements in the post. What do you not agree with?

Drifting slighlty off topic here- Consumer fireworks are those tested and approved of as Cat 1, 2 or 3 and sold to the general public. Chemical suppliers are really a different field.

Oh, I forgot my head. I thought we were speaking of "adverts" in general.

Sorry I should of been more clearer meaning chems are not hard to come by in the UK, as David says it is off topic so lets leave this one here.
