More or less as the title says really, can coarse Potassium Nitrate be added to water as is in making CIA black powder or is it best to grind it fine before hand? I would assume that since Potassium Nitrate is highly soluble it should be fine being coarse and still soak into the charcoal grains like normal but need clarification on this.

If the chemical is dissolved in water it is about as finely divided as it(practically) can be,
Impurities / contamination aside there is no benefit in grinding.
