How about a coloured fireball?
For a nice apple green fireball effect, try boric acid dissolved in methanol or ethanol. A black powder charge atomises the boric acid-methanol mixture and ignites it, resulting in a green fireball. Chlorides of strontium (red fireball), barium (deep green) and copper (blue-green) dissolved in methanol also work quite well. Avoid using fuels that burn with a vivid orange (carbon-rich) flame- it tends to mask the colour produced by the metal chloride in question.
