It DOES react fairly well with water. i'll video a demo for you.

I think you may be right in what you are saying about it reacting over a period of time. it made for good flash 30 seconds after i mixed it, but very poor flash an hour later.

Perhaps i'll carry out some more tests.

Interesting all the same imo

It is interesting proving these things for oneself, however this information is pretty well documented in a fair few respected sources.
Phew that was close.

Slight reactions could produce magnesium nitrate which is very hygroscopic, and very well could absorb enough water to render a mix very tamed or inert.

It's much more likely that moist would destroy the mix by making it inert than making it self-ignite. That's at least my experience and what I can find out by reading reports on the subject.
"This salt, formerly called hyperoxymuriate of potassa, is
used for sundry preparations, and especially for experimental
fire-works."

Ah. the plot thickens.

Made a quick batch of bp this evening......Only to find it INCREDIBLY slow. Like mega slow.

Tested out my ingredients, and found my Nitrate to be forming clumps......I can only presume its damp - hence why my mag flash is poor.

After getting a dryer batch of nitrate ground down, and making 5g of 60/40 Pot. Nitrate/Mg.....I can report back that its actaully quite impresssive, consideribly louder than my previous flash using a larger Sized Mg powder.
