Hi everyone,

Go easy on me -- 1st Post !

I want a nice (but cheap) fireworks display -- Around £20-£30. I have a massive garden so there is no issue with safety.

I would like to buy some selection box from Tesco or Sansbury's ; Can anyone recommend anything in particular from experience ?

I specifically can not buy from other supermarkets because none are near me ; Apart from a Waitrose (So that is also a possibility)

Out of my limited options, can anyone recommend anything to me ?

Are there no all year round shops near you, or seasonals, paper shops doing fireworks etc. If you have access to the bigger supermarkets, then in the same town there may well be a different seller who can do perhaps a better deal.

Tesco/Sainburies and Waitrose... not a great selection I'm afriad.

How can I tell what is a good value for money firework ? Are there any particular firework manufacturers that I should be looking out for ?-- Tesco's fireworks say 'Standard' on them. As you can see, I have absolutely no experience in this field

There arn't hardly any shops in the area where I live -- Tesco' hypermarket and supermarket surrounding me -- Seems to have knocked every other business out in the area but will certainly take a look -- Just need to know what to look for.

To be honest, it's more a question of whats available - where (roughly) do you live- I might be able to recommend an all year round seller in your area.

Just had a thought....

Although I don't live there, I do sometimes go shopping to Bromley and I am planning to go again soon (South East England) -- and there are a lot of shops in that area..... Can you take a look please ? -- Don't worry if you can't find anything -- I am a very unlucky person

Go for Brightstar fireworks or Kimbolton.... selection boxes are very good value. No supermarkets this year have decent offers im afraid...

Would I find these on the internet ? Link to a reliable website ? I don't want some 'amazingly' cheap firework that then doesn't work when I try to light it if you know what I mean.

I don't know the area at all, off the top of my head I can't think of any shops nearby. However, a walk round the high street might be fruitful- if you get the chance, if you fnd some shops check out the brands they sell, and do a websearch or ask here about value for money, performance etc.

If you must go for Tesco, perhaps the £20 offer is OK, where you get a selection box and a little cake. Or I think there is a £40 one for a bigger, fanned cake and a selectoion box.

Hard to tell how good this stuff is- bit of a gamble really. I think it's all "new" (that is to say, at least the names are new) this year.

Ok -- Thanks for all the advice I will go hunting in the high street

If that fails:

I know it's quite early for anyone to have lit fireworks; but has anyone here tested the Tesco's range yet ? I would have thought someone would have posted their reviews of the Tesco 2009 range but I can't seem to find any comments at the moment.

Do avoid Tesco range &sainsburys & homebase.... they are a rip off and you will be dissapointed! Spend your money better eslewhere...

my stash for this year + 2 "325 shot barrages" just under £75 for the lot.... not bad... found all these on corner shops + high street. some BOGOF ill keep for next year..

As a general point, supermarket fireworks are not very popular with enthusiasts, so it's unlikley that someone would go out of their way to test them.

If you want some more opinons on consumer firworks, check out UKFR - very active at the moment, and the forum is free.
