As a general point, supermarket fireworks are not very popular with enthusiasts, so it's unlikley that someone would go out of their way to test them.

If you want some more opinons on consumer firworks, check out UKFR - very active at the moment, and the forum is free.

Ok -- Doing that too -- Will go out tomorrow so going to try and get as much advice as possible now -- Searching for local businesses with google too - Is there any way I can see if fireworks are genuine when I pick them up ?

They almost certainly will be, thats not something to worry about.

Are Night Star and Bright Star the same? Those Bright Star fireworks you've got there dark-sky76 look the same as the Night Star fireworks my local seasonal shop is doing (just different colours/patterns on the fireworks themselves). E.g. that Barrage Blitz pack you've got, I've got 'Barrage Blast' from Night Star which is in an identical case and looks like it contains practically the same fireworks, just with different names.

Sparklers in Tesco are being sold for 35p for 5 -- Yet most supermarkets seem to be selling £1 for 5

Are these recommended ?

If I go into a specialist fireworks store -- Can my 15 year old son come with me ? (It is illegal to sell fireworks to anyone under 18) -- If he picks them, but I pay for them, can they refuse to serve me ? I don't want to travel somewhere and be refused to be served

Not 100% sure. Legally, of course, you need to be 18 to buy fireworks- if you are buying them for your own use, and he is just helping you pick , that should be fine.

Remember it's illegal (technically) evebn for him to help them carry them to your car.

Oh the memories....Bought at homebase last year and the worker walked them to my car....He said it was policy to escort fireworks off the premises -- Including seeing you driving out of the car park.

I think the world has gone mad with policies/laws

I always used to think that but I can't say I've ever seen custom be refused if you have someone with you who is older looking. Then again you might be in trouble if the younger person is handing over the cash.

If it's the younger person paying just give the older person the cash before you enter the store and if they ask say the younger one is just helping pick, which if thats true shouldn't be a problem.

Unless you get some kids outside asking people to go in and buy fireworks for them, it's hard to tell.

barrage blits made by bright star thats in the 2nd photo on this thread is a fab barrage pack it sells between £10.50 and £25 i had it last year and the barrages were small and we all underestimated them wen we lit them they had better performance than some fireworks 3 times their size they weigh a lot for their size and pack a large punch my advice is never buy from a super market their terible value for money you can get 5 times as much in a proper firework shop and you can buy a barrage thats worth £5 and they change the name and put a different label on the firework then sell it for £15 trust me find a firework shop eaven if you have to travel its worth it so i would get the barrage blitz barrage pack and get a nice big bright star selection box then some extra bigger barrages like a 1000 shot missile silo firework for £30

It's all about what you want for your own display...You make some good points here but your comment about the 1000-shot Silo firework
being a 'bigger barrage' isn't quite true. 1000 shots yes, but they are small piddly little things and if it's fired on its own, people
will be bored after 30 seconds.
If you are going to spend £30 on one firework, you much better off going for something like for Super Nova or better still, spend an
extra £10 and get Open Fire...Ok, so the firework lasts a lot less in time but there is no comparrison when it comes to effects and
noise.

the brothers companion box is quite good for value you get 5 sibs (single ignition) fireworks and 6 display fauntains the sibs are not great quality well not in my opinion. But they have great effects for not to demanding desplays

Bright Star's old stuff used to be ok, I bought a lot of it but some of the more recent new reg stuff I've had has been weak as anything. The Companion Box is a fantastic quality box and would wipe the floor with most Bright Star selection boxes, the 15 shot cakes in Companion are very very punchy and loud for their size and the fountains are amongst the best I've seen in a box.

sorry MonsterBerry but the SOS selection box is a GOOD selection box and NOT a supermarket special at all..... and you arent really comparing like for like

SOS is a Cat2 selection box, 15 small fireowrks with a safety distance of 5metres

Upscale Entertainment is a Cat3 barrage pack, 8 fireworks with a safety distance of 25 metres
