Thanks for the info!

I shall be going down tonight to buy some!

What sort of size were the £3.99 rockets, also what were the sizes of the different cakes like?

Thanks
Dan

Hey there Dan. I picked up the fireworks, dropped them home and then came to work so haven't had all that much of a chance to inspect them. From memory - the £3.99 rockets are very small, probably about a similar size to, maybe a tad larger than, the small TNT rockets on sale in Lidl last year (head is about 2 inches long, 2 cm thick), and the cakes I would describe as medium-sized. Have you ever seen a Cheeky Cherries cake? I'd say they were of a similar size (but cuboid as opposed to rectangular). The Fire Fighter cake is a bit larger, and slighty round (more oval than circular from memory), but it has an empty space in the middle (you can tell there is a circular area with no tubes).

Hope that helps!

And let me know what your larger rockets are like (if you get them), i.e. whether they appear to be sturdy or not.

The larger rockets in the 'cocktail of rockets' pack employ the usual trick of putting an empty nosecone on to make it look bigger.

You might as well just pull it off and throw it away - at least the rocket will go higher with less waste cardboard to carry!

I wrote to Lidl about this last year and they said they would look into it - guess their decision was to do nothing and carry on hoodwinking the customer.

With the 20g limitation, 11cm long by 15-20mm dia (ish) easily contains the active material - anything bigger is just for show...

Thanks for the reply, and that is indeed annoying. However, it's not the nose cone that's the issue; it's the whole head (= correct term?) of the rocket, i.e. the whole of the actual firework body attached to the stick feels as though it could come off really easily. That's what worries me. It also rattles - is that normal? The other rockets in the pack don't rattle but then they may contain different effects.

A little rattle is not a problem - stars are often quite loosely filled.

If the stick is not firmly attached to the head (correct!) that could be a problem. The stick is usually glued to the cardboard motor tube & the decorative wrap provides additional security. A bit of work with some PVA should cure the problem.

Thanks. I did think that as soon as I saw it, but then became paranoid that I'd overload it with glue and it wouldn't rise! I am still a bit surprised that the pack didn't contain a launch tube, I used to keep old ones from previous years but might have had a clear out. Having said that, I haven't properly inspected the contents of the pack and there may be one lurking in there. The pack does, however, say 'fire from a tube' not 'fire from the tube provided'.

just wondering why the hell would you want to go to costco as im shore the deals will be like morrisons and asda your much better off going to lidl as they are selling their original make weco and their good quality fireworks at an amazing discount value
as long as the tube isnt paper thin itl be fine as long as the tube is still as thick as it was so it can withstand the pressure form the explosive charge itl just blow throu a bit of ruff paper

Because, Monsterberry1, in years gone by, Costco have offered excellent value for money.

Hi all, I have finally noticed that my local morrisons are stocking very small quantities of fireworks, no sign of sainburies yet, and not checked asda.
Has anyone else noticed that there are a lot more signs re. laws of fireworks on the stalls? There are quite a few warnings re. fireworks on them!
Or it could just be me?
