Never mind, I bought some potassium benzoate instead.

On second thought it would be cheaper and pretty interesting to try the potassium salicylate or at least compare the two.

Let's see:

2C6H4(OH)COOH)+K2CO3--->2HOC6H4COOK+H2CO3

276 grams of salicylic acid will react with 138 grams of potassium carbonate and form 352 grams of potassium salicylate and 62 grams of hydrogen carbonate, that is, if the reaction is equimolar and there is no catalyst needed.

They are about as stable as whistle. I have never encountered an accidental igntion before.

I haven't made strontium sorbate. However, I have previously produced barium sorbate. With barium nitrate, sulfur and parlon it makes quite a nice flare, though it burns too slowly as stars.

Interesting, any ideas of how one would go about creating a strontium sorbate salt? cant find any info on such a chemical on the net. So this stuff is as sensitive as average whistle then? meaning handle it like flash?

I am going to do a few tests with it, tried a very tiny amount in a motar and pestle around quarter of a gram (with gloves on and not an amount to do myself or others harm) and ground it to my hearts content and nothing happened and so will try hammer tests etc cause as you say it does burn vigorous and hot. I love the stuff though!
