Does anyone know what colours these metals or their derivative salts burn in, Niobium or Ferro-Niobium, Cobalt, Tantalum and Cadmium? I am wanting to test some of the bare metal powders and oxides to see what they produce though not sure whether to wast my money on these or not especially if anyone else has done tests in these areas.

Cadmium and cobalt burn blue in certian situations. They are all fairly useless due to their extremely high price.

However I would not consider Cadmium due to its toxicity for both us and the environment
Phew that was close.

Would Cobalt Oxide produce any sort of blue or Cobalt Carbonate? I have seen both chemicals at an ok price.

The old description said it was used with Lithium carbonate to produce purples but I've failed to find any useful mention of it anywhere else, in relation to pyrotechnics that is...
This topic from REC.PYRO suggests it might not be particularly useful.

One chemical I am going to buy is Niobium Pentoxide to see how reactive it is. Shame about cobalt salts though may still try the oxide for fun of it.
