If you come along to society events, you will get to know lots of people who fire or even run companies - if they like the look of you, they might well give you a try - usually unpaid at first I'm afraid...

out of interest, the South West is a large place, where about are you? there are several display companies in the south West that view this board, so tieing it down to an area would be usefull.

Hi, me again.
Are there any companies / pyros in the cornwall or devon area that would be willing to give any opportunities to gain practical experience??

Perhaps you could research the local companies through the www and the phone and local trade directories. Most firework companies that I am aware of travel miles to do shows. I know a London company that goes to near Liverpool for one show, I've heard of a company from the south-west doing a show in Lowestoft.

There may be a few companies in Cornwall, more in Devon Somerset Avon Dorset etc. Keep looking. Before anyone books you they will look for some experience or training, or some evidence of enthusiasm on your part.

However Firework companies do travel to shows so you MAY get interest from distant companies coming to Cornwall to do shows, but how to find them.....?

Keep mannequins and watermelons away from fireworks..they always get hurt..

Did you have any luck with this? Im in the SW too, in Farnborough, looking to get some pyrotechnic experience.

I've got a fair bit of heavy industrial engineering experience on chemical plants which might help as its very safety-oriented and obviously you need to know about electricity, chemistry and mechanics.

Just started putting out feelers to see what the options are. Does anyone know of any companies who are likely to take on apprentices or run training? In the UK, not just the SW.

TIA

Michael.
There are 2 types of people: Alchemists, and Chemists.
