I am putting together a bid for a TV SFX and ( in my my ignorance as pyro is not my specialism) am wondering if there is such a thing as black or very dark coloured visco. There is a requirement for a burning fuse to be in camera and it must be black/dark coloured.
Any suggestions/suppliers etc would be appreciated.

Are you asking about visco which is physically black, or visco which produces little to no visible flame?

I've not yet heard of black visco. However unless you will need huge quantities I'd use either spray (matt) black paint or some black felt pen, or even boot polish.

Probably done on site to avoid transporting an un-cadded item (change of colour).

Does it have to be Visco, if not then you could always go with Black Match, oh and its black.

Conventional boot polish may being solvent based mix well with a NC lacquer mix.

I need a burning fuse with a visible flame in the region 1cm/second. Ideallythe fuse colour should be black or as dark as possible.
I anticipate the need for a maximum of 10m.
Sorry for any confusion in the earlier post.

Black match would fit the bill then, it burns at about the 1cm/second mark and a nice visible flame. you would need to be able to keep it dry as it is uncoated and sucks up water like a sponge.

Thank you Pyro.1 - storage before use is not a problem - we can keep it dry and free from the effects of humidity.
We will obtain some and do some comparitive video tests with visco that has been externally "coloured".

Danny, not sure on the application but I'd be wary of cross ignition on BM as it does "skip" sections quite often. If you're actually using it to ignite something then I'd stick to Visco and it would be quite easy to colour it black even with a NC based lacquer similar to that which it already has.

If you need it either to test and play with I've loads and you know where I am. I've got some very nice Lidu BM rolls which are extremely moisture resistant on their own.

I've also some extremely dark green visco which is not many steps away from black on its own.

Not sure if this will be of any use, but I happen to have video comparisons of visco vs blackmatch.

Some heavy lacquer visco - notice how the lacquer interferes with the sparks:

And (commercial) blackmatch:

Excellent video clips. Would I be able to have copies to use in a presentation to the production company should I be successful in my bid? Appropriate credit would be given of course. Please PM me to discuss.
