In Topic: Pyro Training courses - who is interested?

Hi all. Can some one give me a brief break down of T1/T2 stuff, to save me trawling through lots of techinacl papers....Something like for example, a maroon is/will beTx, a gerb is/will beTy. Or is there a link to a simple list please.

What sort of cost will these courses be and will there ever be one south of Bristol?? Thanks in advance

Again... a little unfair generalisation given the thousands of miles that have been clocked up by the crews that have delivered this course to all corners of the UK including the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland and even Bilbao, Spain!!

That said, and I replied to your similar post of nearly a year ago (June 2010)

Regarding costs, I regret that I have no idea as the price is set by the hosts and not the training providers or ASP. The course is hosted by many different organizations, venues and associations who all charge different rates to cover their costs for providing the course.

Only by way of example, Stage Electrics often charge £155, Whitelight, £135 the ABTT £120 per member, Arts & Media Training charge £50 per delegate, whereas The Isle of Wight Arts Unit charged £20 and Falmouth Council even charged £10 per delegate...

So to answer your question, you would be best served to shop around the various hosts listed in the earlier post.

If all else fails and you can provide a suitable venue and good quanity of delegates, talk to the ASP about hosting a course yourself.

Finally, as my collegue has stated, we do not have the definitive split between T1 and T2 YET and it certainly will not be a clear cut line between say, maroons and gerbs (your example!) There will be some T1 Gerbs there will be some T1 (outdoor only) Gerbs and there will be some T2 Gerbs. When it is all done and dusted (consulted upon, adjusted and finally adopted), it will be in everybodies interest for a definitive list to be produced. The Manufacturers will have to separate their items espeially as purchase of T2 will require both training AND public liability insurance evidence at the point of sale. I am quite sure that HSE LOCAF will separate the three type (yes, 3) and we at the ASP will probably keep a database updated also.

Hope all of that rambling makes some sort of sense.

The important bit is... use this, "once in a lifetime opportunity (the BSI public consultation)", to make your wishes, fears, concerns known now" by getting involved for the benefit of the next generaions of safe operators.

I do share your irritation of the online BSI consultation system

The T1 - T2 split is important. please get involved.

The Pyrotechnic Articles Safety Regulations 2010 will place a requirement...

... and for Articles Pyrotechnic this will be mid 2013

I have done the ASP training course and then (about a year ago), Lincoln was hoping that this would be accepted as producing a "person with specialist knowledge". However he was not sure at the time. As almost 3000 people have done this course it would be nice if it could become a 'de facto' standard.

Indeed, I'm still not sure if there has been any definition of what constitutes T2 "professional" stage pyro.

Phil

We have worked hard to keep the word "professional" OUT of all the regs and standards in order not to repeat the difficulties that the firework boys and girls had with it's inclusion!

Please also spread the word that all are welcome (please) to add comments to the public consultation on the new standards (BSI). Links can be found on the ASP home page. www.stage-pyro.org.uk

Yep!

... be assured, the ASP are most certainly on top of this and will be wheeling out "specailist knowledge training modules" FOR STAGE PYRO (T2) by the dozen once the CEN (EU & BSI) standard has been consulted on, approved and finally adopted. (only taken up 4 years of my life so far!)

In the meantime, some of this is a little premature.

Who knows, this could go completely belly up and the split between T1 and T2 be (eventually) made at such a high level that the need for training for devices for STAGE PYRO be negated all together leaving us exactly where we are today.

... of course, this will still leave the requirement of HSE HS@W "Safe working practices" in place and training of any sort will always add to an operators competancy.

Those wishing to take on delivering "specialist knowledge training" for P2 articles will be warmly welcomed and supported... We won't be touching them. (except the crossover with igniters... (!)

PS Would still like the UKPS to "Host" some courses someday (Phil ?)
