In Topic: Consumer fireworks worthy of professional displays

19 February 2007 - 03:32 AM

Hello! Long time no see guys. Tonight and last weeks I have done two small fireworks displays in my local park. The first costing £20 and tonight costing £30. I would like to list a few fireworks that are most worthy of any professional display. As in massive palm bursts with huge flash reports plus a few others. Ok so here they are. Please add your own to the list.

Well here goes my two penneth, Raptor mines by next generation (cosmic group) 19 shot mine cake available in two varieties (hunting and angry raptors)
expensive @ £50 (retail) but very nice, great depth of colour, my personal favourite being the "hunting".
I would guess each tube being about 60mm in diameter (maybe slightly less ,maybe slightly larger), very effective anyway.

Menshun's obsession @ roughly £25-£30 retail very impressive 30 shot cake good height and big bursting effects
not sure of shot size but it is on the large side, good colour depth

Menshun's darkness invader is also rather good, 19 shot @ £10-£15 retail, again good height and impressive breaks as well as good colour depth.

And if we are talking suitable for professional display's why not a next generation "extravaganza" nearly £100 and if you like the colours vivid and the breaks large and a nice variation of effects from one item, then its well worth a look
we had one in 2006 and I was very concerned about forking out for the thing (value for money), but from my point of view it was worth every penny!!

In Topic: Shellscape Pyrotechnics Fireworks-do you like em'?

24 January 2007 - 02:50 AM

never heard of them.

well i know this is 1 1/2 years late but yes they do have a website
http://www.shellscape.com/new.htm

and Anthony, I wouldn't say they were expensive, not in terms of value for money (vfm).
They're candles seem quite reasonable 6 for £7.80 seems quite cheap 10 shot 16mm.

never actually bought from them, but they have a couple of good reviews on the ukfr site

well worth a look i'd say!

In Topic: Low Noise Displays In A Box

24 January 2007 - 01:44 AM

:) I know a lot of the commercially available Cat3 25m displays in a box contain a fair bit of noise BUT has any manufacturer ever thought of creating (or indeed have) low noise single ignition displays? Low noise black powder starbursts/comets/bees/fish/flitter/glitter/spinners etc without heavy flash breaks/whistles/crackles/crackers/hummers/screechers or other loud effects would form the basis of such displays in a box, I think they're a good idea for those who would like to have a single ignition display but who have sensitive neighbours or live near elderly people/farmers/kennels/catteries etc. What does anyone else think? :)

I have never had one of these, but I have seen them around, and thought maybe one year, just to see what they do!

MYSTICAL FAIRYTALES by menshun, very expensive, very long duration (5 mins according to menshun's website), 226 shot, large single ignition display.
retails around £70'ish mark, usually listed under quiet fireworks section on some firework websites

also menshun do a cake called "STAR DUST".
which is a 140 shot "serene" barrage lasting 3 mins (no idea of price on this one).

In Topic: Dodgy " Discounts "

16 January 2007 - 02:22 AM

ah yes, the power of marketing !

The money that must be spent, on paying the wages of those wonderful people who think up new and exciting ways of telling the public, "ours are the best value , buy from us".

probably out strips the profit made from the sale of that range anyway ! lol
ah well thats marketing for you!

In Topic: Where Can I Get The New BS7114 Laws?

16 January 2007 - 01:27 AM

Thanks, Reb. Euro Commision constituted a new laws for fireworks law not long ago, right? Any detailed content?

Hi victor,
I have not read the "BS EN 14035" spec yet, and I am not going to spend £56 to get a copy!
Exactly when this standard will be introduced is (as I understand it) still in question.
Although the British fireworks industry has untill march 2008 as a sell on period of old stock, which does not conform to these new regulations.

But one thing I have been told is that the safety distance for catagory 2 (garden fireworks) will increase from 5 metres to 8 metres, and some "NEW" types of fireworks will be introduced, although what these "new" types are ?

Other than that, I don't know!

good luck
