although im new to your site, im experienced in pyrotechnices. if you do not know what you ar doing, it is a good idea to start small.

ammonium perchlorate (NH4CLO4) works a whole lot better with binders than ammonium nitrate. it is not hygroscopic either.

correct me if im wrong, but nh4no3 serves as the oxidixer. i use ammonium perchlorate (NH4CLO4). it yelds four oxygen molecules to the nitrates three. it pretty cheep too.
