Mortar Safety data

30 December 2009 - 11:57 AM

Does anyone have (or know where I can get) some data about the safety and performance of different mortar tube materials? I know that insurance companies prefer fibreglass and for tubes to be separated in racks, along with the 1m per mm distances, but I can't find any test data to explain why.

If I spend money on materials to improve the safety of displays I'd like to actually KNOW it will help.

Any ideas?

Angled Mortar Tubes

29 July 2009 - 01:02 PM

I'm looking into replacing/updating our racking system, and need a bit of help on the 'perfect' angles for fanned mortar tubes. Obviously the middle tube is straight (eg set at 90 degrees), but what angles should the other tubes be at? I'm looking at 3", 4" and 5" shells fanned in 3's, 4's and 5's. I want the bursts to just touch.

Can anyone point me to the information?

Anyone in Northern England/Southern Scotland?

We have a display in Dumfries on Saturday 6th June. If you're looking for training/experience on a small professional display to start out on your career in pyro, this could be the one for you! The display will mainly be Cat 3 material, and hand-fired.

You'll need to be at least 18 years old, and able to get yourself there and back.

Anyone fancy it?

BPA courses in the South

12 May 2009 - 04:08 PM

Hi all,

I'm looking for a BPA-acredited Training Course (Level 1 AND Level 2) in (sensible) range of London. I know Fantastic offer their 2-day £400 job, but I'm not sure £400 is any sort of value for money. Does anyone know of a company offering such a thing?

Any ideas?

Tools for Professional Displays

I'm just auditing our toolkits, and ensuring we send out firing teams with everything they need to set up, fire and clear up effectively and safely.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what should/shouldn't be in toolkits to be used with Cat 3 AND Cat 4 material? I want to make sure I haven't missed anything.
