#85209 2015 AGM - May 9th, Worksop

Posted by Bob Twells on 11 May 2015 - 10:52 AM

Great to catch up with everybody yesterday.

Display video came out fantastically, editing today and will be uploaded later on this evening, does anybody have the UKPS logo as a .PNG with a transparent background?

PM sent, if not too late.

#84563 Oliver Brown Closing Down

Posted by Bob Twells on 19 March 2015 - 07:24 PM

It's a real shame to be losing one of the few well known suppliers for this hobby in the UK. The decision is perfectly understandable with sales dropping as badly as mentioned.

The UKPS has had nothing to do with the precursor regs at all, they came as a shock to us all, and at pretty short notice. Several members did get a chance to directly question and express their concerns to the Home Office at one of the AGMs, and many filled in the HO's online consultation to stress the impact the regs might have on this and other hobbies. However, it seemed the decisions had already been made and they would be coming into play despite the feedback.

Many thanks to Oliver Brown for helping enthusiastic pyro hobbyists for so long! :)

#80909 Home Office - Explosive Precursors...

Posted by Bob Twells on 13 December 2013 - 01:34 PM

I have filled out the public survey, I hope everyone else reading this will too.

Hopefully enough voices along with an official UKPS response will keep us in mind with the relevant people.

Wayne, will we (members) get to see the statement before it goes to HO?

#79203 2013 AGM Announced

Posted by Bob Twells on 07 February 2013 - 03:31 PM

Whilst I agree that we should be promoting the UKPS as much as we can, I'm a bit undecided about the love affair with the general public, town criers etc.

I wouldn't want the AGM to be dumbed down to the level that had mass 'bloke in the street' appeal.

For me, the attraction of the AGM is the specialist / professional / 'nerdy' speakers. (meant in the kindest possible way and I include myself as a firework nerd)

I also enjoy the atmosphere that we are all 'friends' and part of the family and as such can chat to each other without worrying too much about what we are saying.

As for the display, the more spectators the merrier.

It's hard to get my view across without sounding unwelcoming, I'd just be a bit concerned that we may end up with a load of people who had walked into the hall and didn't get what they were expecting.

I largely agree with the point you're making, it's quite a specialised event not just a regular fireworks display. I'm all for promoting as much as possible so long as it's in relevant places. Last year we had notices put up in the Chemistry department of the local University for example. No idea if it attracted any attendees, but if it did at least they'd get what they were expecting!
