In Topic: Second Generation New Spec 1.4G

11 November 2009 - 07:26 PM

I'm pleased to say that there was definatly an increase in quality of 1.4G fireworks this year. What I saw from Brothers, Royal Party and Bright Star , all made this year (I assume) was loud enough, and perfectly acceptable- nice breaks and mixed effects.

Thankfully the weak, disappointing "crisp bag pop" shite that some brands were doing in 2007-2008 seems to have been improved upon a great deal.

Even with rockets, some were OK, if it's accepted that 1.4G rockets are now garden fireworks, and people are expecting a small burst. Some did have a bit of a bang, nothing thunderous, but a bang at least.

Totally agree David.

I had some of the smaller kids go inside this year as it was too noisy Posted Image - can it ever be too noisy lol ?

Had nothing but positive remarks from adults and kids from a totally 1.4g display.

Just to update.

All now sorted. Went to visit Mark at Fireworks Crazy and he made sure I went away a very happy customer.

A big big thank you to Mark and family.

Now to finalise that firing order Posted Image

I see you are looking at another retailer around London. I'm near J14 on the M1 and will be making a pilgrimage to Epic this year. What area of London are you outside of, maybe we could plan a trip up, but that depends on if you are buying from closer to home and which side of the capital you are on?

Hello there

I am still not 100% where I will be buying my fireworks this year. Its still possible I may go to Epic but if I do then its going to be a family outing so going to have a car full I'm afraid.

I see you have posted on another thread here so good luck with finding someone to go with.

This could all be solved by Epic opening up a South East branch Posted Image!!

Gigantic Crab!!! also says: sparklers are generally a no-no these days at public events, but glo-sticks are a safe alternative and a good way to make a little more money on the night (so the budget can be upped!).

A definate no-no on the sparklers. They are not allowing them to be brought in by the parent either.

Glo-sticks already purchased but as a way to make money for the school rather than to increase my budget. Only way I get more money is if ticket sales do better than expected.

Gigantic Crab!!! says: forget the 20 minute length requested. 10 mins is plenty for almost everyone and at least you will have a chance of putting on a memorable display. 20 mins of big Cat4 fireworks can get boring, stretch your budget over that length and it will end up being piss poor.
My only other advice would be to spend all your cash at one retailer; you'll get far more doing this so pick your friendly retailer and go shopping. Mark, Stu or Paul would all look after you (there are others I could also recommend but these are the chaps that post here and they all stock top notch pyro, though I am yet to sample Mark's tea...).

Trust me, I'm an unearthly enormous decapod crustacean.
Or don't trust me, in which case I shall mark your folly by pincing you in half with my f-off massive chelae.
HA HA HA HA HA!!!

Thanks for your reply - I am under orders to have 20 minutes so 20 minutes it has to be. I managed to get that down from an hour originally !!

I will be going to just the one retailer - Fireworks Crazy most likely - I am just waiting for Mark to confirm what discount I can have. I should have £500 cash burning a hole in my pocket sometime this week Posted Image
