asteroid,

is there any chance that this might be possible with any other chemicals or materials that can be readily bought in the UK?

i really need this for a prank on muck-up day

and you proving this wrong doesn't help my efforts though i haven't actually started to get the stuff

Nope, you can't. Keystone is a UK company, but I think I can see your thought train, and it'll be quite expensive, probably more than you are willing to spend.

Not really, a regular smoke grenade isn't something without risks ie. the large flame which comes with it. Best stick with moving the teachers cars by lifting them!

US Mil sourced 'Standard Red Smoke':

Lactose 18
Potassium chlorate 29.5
Red dye 47.5
Magnesium carbonate 5

Traditionally the red dye was a mix of Rhodamine B and Para Red but this was found to be carcinogenic. These days, you might use a blend of Disperse Red 11 and Solvent Red 1 and experiment to adjust for burn speed.

www.dyes.com

If I remember correctly, it's about 60 for a selection pack of various colours.

Edit: The videos exposing the fake have over 17,000 views between them, and still rising!
Edit: Mar 11 2009 Between them the videos now have 28,000 views, and the youtube one is second when you google search for ultimate smoke bomb!

  • The smoke erupts from the bottom really fast, within a few seconds of the mixture being lit, the grenade is smoking from both ends. This just wouldn't happen in solid KNSU mixture.

He did put a hole down the middle of the thing to bottom...
