Going by additive colors, purple and green should make blue. Grey, especially that kind of steel grey, seems very reasonable to me. It's probably just the two colors mixing within the tube. I wonder if perhaps a short burst of white smoke, or better yet something that makes little to no smoke, might be able to clear the chamber and allow for a cleaner transition.
