What is the best grinding tool?

I have to grind up a massive amount of charcoal was an effects gag. What is the best method of grinding it up to a powder?

How to make burning embers?

21 March 2014 - 01:36 PM

I've been tasked with a challenge of making an effect that looks like burning embers. Which need to drift across a set.

I've had a little success with using fine charcoal powder. Being blown down a 4 inch pipe with 4 gas burners setting the powder alight on the way. However, this has only given me a very small amount of "burning embers"

I think the problem is getting the charcoal hot enough that it fully burns. I hoped using an airline would do this as well as blow the embers out the end of the pipe.

Has anyone got any ideas or advice?

wireless systems

Hi

i work within special effects, and unfortunately dont use the forum as much as i really should. (my early new years resolution is to change that)

I wanted to pick peoples brains about wireless ignition systems. Ive used the standard Ignius 4 and 8 ways. And love the Galaxus system, for live events and gigs anyway. ( i know it has its limitations in TV and film) Has anyone used the wireless Ignius strikers? Ive heard good things about them, but never seen or used them.

Also, does anyone know where to get a good galvo from within the UK? I have been looking at getting one for ages, and seen peoples "tool belt" versions and also the more standard "box" versions with the needle readout.

Any advice is greatly appreaciated

thanks

Hi,

Ive only just joined the forum, so just a quick introduction. Im based in London and work in the film industry doing special effects, and used pyro a lot on set. Like HE, det cord, bullet hits, BP, fuel bags etc...

Ive been interested in fireworks and pyrotechnics ever since i was a kid. Back in the days of raiding your parents garage trying to find ingredients to help create some concoction. Now, im really interested in the chemistry and physics of making fireworks properly. I want to gain experience firing, and meet up with like minded people and find out what other peoples experiences are. I really enjoy pushing the boundaries by testing things that you wouldnt normally think of. Im a new member on the uk fireworks forum as well.

looking forward to investigating the forum

Dan
