Yeah I think Groupe F will be doing that one. Jack Morton worldwide have won the Beijing event (no surprises!), so Groupe F will no doubt be doing that one as well.

Mat

Yup!, one of the (many) things that p**s me off about the Olympics, always the same names (Coca cola, Jack, Morton, and Group F) regardles of who the host country is. Mind you I suspect there will be a fairly large involvement from local Chinese firms at the Beijing games (particularly as they've just increased the pre-olympics export ban from one month to two months before the games! just how much stuff are they looking to chuck into the air !!!!!!!) BTW I could tell you some stories about the "olymic ideal" that would make you furious (from first hand accounts of friends that worked on the Athens games) but this probably isn't the place.

Edit!

Er. my bad, should have done a bit more research before ranting! seems JM have only had the contract since the last Olympics, my mis-remembering was down to the fact that JM and Groupe F have "been in bed" with the London new year fireworks since 2001 and I thought they'd had the Olympics for longer, still I'd be happy to bet money that JM and Groupe F get the London olympics. However my "Olymic ideal" comment still stands. And re. the comment of companies doing it for the prestige, neither Jack Morton or Groupe F need the prestige and there is PLENTY of money in the oylmpics, there is no way they are doing it at cost!

1/ be 100% certain that the unit you intend to purchase is all solid state, I've seen multiple cues fired from relay controllers.

2/ I've seen the easypyro 20 channel unit start to malfunction in light rain so something to keep them dry.

I still like wire firing, beware of turning a pyro hobby into a pyro controller hobby -seen that done too -new firing box for each show <_<

Er. what exactly is your reasoning behind "Solid state" over "Relays" ? Both can be equaly as safe as the can be dangerous! Transistors and Mosfets can fail short circuit (Bad) Relay contacts can weld shut (also bad). Of course decent monitoring circuitry in the firing system or other pre-show tests will identify such failures.

does anyone have any comments on the "easypryo" wireless firing system re small scale backgarden use only ? i have several hard wired and cd units, just fancied using a wireless system. this seems a very basic unit which might serve purpose

anyone got one?

Never heard of it? Have you got a link?

In Topic: Health And Safety At Work Training Course Places Available

Could be interested in the ADR course, according to dates and leave available!

There are a FEW places on this currently, dates are 5th - 7th Feb cost £390 (Unfortunatly not as negotiable as the first aid course) But again including a delicious hot lunch each day.

BTW it's highly likely we are going to be quite busy later this year and may have need of keen, level headed, people both with and without experience to work on shows that don't just include pyro, there are elements of human performance, large structures etc. etc. PM me if interested with details of age, experience, location etc. and I'll pass on your details.

Note edit because dates were wrong!

East London's good for me, so providing the dates are good I'd be up for it. As it's for a good cause I MAY even be able to get some stuff donated. Hm, how about getting the kids involved in a simple way? Design and make a simple fire drawing for example, to be used as part of the display? The only way this could fall flat is if the Hospice starts getting major insurance, risk assesment etc. concerns (unfortunatly highly likely these days). I have insurance that would cover me but not anyone else. Of course the show could be a private one on non hospice land that just happens to be viewable from the hospice ;)
