Ferrotitanium or various kinds works well in AP formulations, and is much better than iron/steel from the corrosion point of view. If you're using either of those they'll need to be coated for the effect to be maintained even after a few weeks storage if conditions are damp.

I have to say that the old red lead compositions seemed to make some of the best "coarse" crackle compositions you could get; almost a mini-salute effect if the grains of crackle comp were big enough - with the bismuth comps I've tried you seem to get multiple smaller cracks.

What I don't understand is, with evidence from previous instances of this type. Where the fire has been raging for some time before the detonation, in that they had well over an hour to get people clear, rather than fight the fire. Why were there no evacuation plans put in place as soon as the fire broke out.

Good point Vic, sounds like the local fire service hadn't done their homework. There was a big agricultural wholesalers near where I used to live who held up to 200 tons of AN at some times. The local fire service had done a survey there, and their plan in the event of a fire was to evacuate everyone within 1.5 miles, sit back and watch   

Thinking about it, this would be an ideal application for the old Jetex reloadable motor!

Seems "bluehead" is something like a mix of dark Al + atomised, seems logical that if the dark flake content is low enough it will be less sensitive. Given enough confinement seriously coarse Al + perc will go bang, remember the CHAF video of the container of waterfall sticks ???

I think we, the public, should run a poster campaign, addressed to the "terrorists", with a big picture of sundry MPs who have fiddled their expenses on it, which says something like "we, Joe Public, really don't have anything against Moslems or coloured people, in fact we really want to thank you for bringing us decent curry and kebabs - if you want to bomb anybody, don't take it out on us, blow up these t*****s instead". 50p per person ought to buy a decent ad campaign!
