#79511 Illegal firework factory explosion

Posted by phildunford on 11 April 2013 - 04:41 PM

Such things are always very bad news, not least for the individuals involved, their families and those living near the incident.

However, I don't think it really impacts on the situation in the UK in any way.

I have very little sympathy with anyone involved with M - anything - ie an excuse for personal hand grenades! This is the farthest fringe of firework making to my mind, having neither skill or beauty.

It sounds as if huge amounts were involved, but even 500g of flash in a small shed is likely to kill all those in the building. Too high a price for infantile enertainment I think...

Of course Germany never stopped thinking that making things is a good idea...

So there they are, in europe, with modern facilities, banging out good product and presumably making a profit.

Why can't we do that?

#78748 Interesting Firework Film

Over the past few months, I've given a couple of pointers to a Phd Student who has been making a film about fireworks.

She's posted the final result. It's very professional and if you have half an hour to spare, well worth a look:

#78135 Over inflated prices

As long as there is no simple way to prove your bona-fide to a retailer there will always be a premium on easy to buy fuse.

It seems that you have to be 'in the club' to buy fuse from a firework company, and it's not an easy club to join...

I've mentioned before that I would like to see UKPS membership as at least a nod in the right direction of proving good intent. Any retailers out there willing to get involved, please message me.

As to any individual providing a service it's caveat emptor (more Latin!) and if you don't like the price you dont have to buy it.

Keep calm and carry on chaps!

#77835 Feedback - Alternative AGM Venues?

Hopefully Richard may be able to re-instate the map some time as it was useful...

As I recall, it showed concentrations of members around London, Midlands and West Country - however, this does not mean that they are active members...

#75810 Who did the London NYE fireworks?

I echo Richard's comments & would add that as a British manufacturer we should be giving Kimbolton all the support we can.

From what I saw on the telly, it looked a great display - will get a first hand report when my son returns from seeing it live in London...

Everyone must remember that this is a public forum, think what you like, but be sure before you say it - it's your society that could get sued out of existance!!!

#74733 One Show - 7.00pm 4th October

The production company tell me that I will be on the One Show (BBC1) 7.00pm 4th October.

If some reason you wanted to see my ugly mug, you could take a look -

The only thing we can do at the moment is write to our MPs on these specific matters & on the general issues of freedom. Don't know if it will help, as it's hardly a major vote-winner, but in the current, slightly more liberal atmosphere, who knows?

The government must also realise that while UK citizens are a placid, easy going lot, there is a breaking point past we get out the pitchforks and flaming torches...

Well I'm doing my bit for freedom!

I've now shown a group of year 7s and a group of year 8s how to blow a hole in the sports field -
