Have not looked into this fully, but my RHS magazine pointed out that Dithane fungacide has been made illegal & that the recomended replacement is based on Copper Oxychloride.

Don't know if it's too diluted or adulterated, but might be worth a look...

Never had you pinned as green fingered Phil.

Is that there CuOCl any good for them blues? I have only used it as a catalyst so far (very good). I may give it a whirl when I get a chance.
Phew that was close.

That was what I was wondering - will get some and give it a try...

I will send you a small sample of the pure stuff for you to try in the next day or two so you can do a few experiments for us to review.

I had to know.

I did a quick test with the following formula

KClO3 55
CuCl2• 3Cu(OH)2 25
Parlon 8
Red gum 7
SGRS 4

What can I say a very very impressive blue. A bit slow, but a good starting point.

Interesting - have heard good things about copper oxychloride blues...

Yes, interesting. How would you say it compares to your Copper Benzoate blues in terms of colour and flame envelope?

I only did a couple 2.5 gram 6mm by 2" lances. So it is a bit early to say, but the colour seemed to better even though I was comparing from memory.

I will make a couple of grams of stars up at the weekend as a test if I can feel my fingers in the workshop.

I will post the results on the star formula thread.

There's been some recent news regarding Antimony that could affect some of you. Basically supply is going to become more difficult.

There's a nice price graph with time, but I'm 'Not allowed to use that image extension on this board', so you'll have to click the link:

On the plus side though, Bismuth does appear to finally be stabilising.

Yep I noticed it starting to rise last year, so I bought a tonne of it.

It has truly gone bonkers this year.

That sounds pretty cheap although shipping must have cost a few quid.
Best I have found in the UK is £10/KG plus postage www.oliverbrown.co.uk not bought any yet but looks pretty cheap.

In eastern Europe more chems are available and usually at better prices than in western Europe. Shipping and customs and duties may make cross border purchase more difficult/expensive.

i have ordered chems from ebay a couple of times and then found someone who sent me an item list with prices, i used this person for about 3 or 4 years afterwards and then stopped making fireworks because of health issues unrelated to fireworks haha :) but for anyone reading this and doesnt really know where to get some chems for the first time buys then just have a browse on ebay for something minor like potassium nitrate or maybe even aluminum powders then before you buy it just send the seller a message asking if he has any other chems for sale and to get an item list :) good luck hunting! :)
