You should be careful becuase you could end up with a lot of non forum members ordering from you.

Its come at last, so if you want Potassium Nitrate, Sulphur, Copper Sulphate or Potassium Chloride just ask.

Tris

PS I am quite happy to 'swap' various chemicals etc to cover some of the price.

Has anyone used the charcoal that Garden Direct sell (12kg for ?14.95). If so, did you get good or bad results?
Is it in a powdered form? Any feed back would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The charcoal is good stuff but it has to be sieved first because it is full of impurities which need to be removed first. Good stuff though

Thanks for the info Pyrodude.

What are the impurities that need removing?
Cheers.

Hi RipRap

You'll need to sieve the C to remove small bits of wood that have not been fully carbonised. Once done this C is fine for fountains, rockets and the like.

It won't make 'good' BP though - for that make your own C from a softwood - for example Willow. There's loads on this site discussing this subject.

Hi Rhodri,

thanks for your reply. I will order some I think. ;)
Up until now I have been milling bbq lumpwood charcoal for rockets, fountains etc, but if this stuff is already powdered & only requires sieving, I would prefer that.

Sure. Do you have any fibrous climbing vines around your garden? If you do now's the time to harvest these, dry and turn into C. This fibrous material has a very high O:H ratio and makes excellent powders. Do this now before the sap rises.

I have a Russian Vine, if you dont know its the fastest climbing plant in the world, and I am currently infesting my neighbours hedge with it  , it puts on at least 25ft of growth a year. Will this stuff be ok for bp?? it is an ideal source because it puts on so much growth and its very woody in the winter and its in excess.
One problem its already put on 6 inches of growth in the past fortnight so the sap has well and truely risen, shall I leave it till winter or give it a bash this year?

Cheers,

Marcus.
