To skip back to the original topic- I was firing some 2007 spec Cat 2 rockets from Sparky earlier this evening, which were a 9 pack with an RRP of something like £15.

Nothing wrong with them, of course, and as I knew what to expect I was happy, but basically they had little bursts and hardly any volume to them at all.

I can see how someone who had paid £15 for them, expecting them to be like the old spec rockets at the same price point, would have been disappointed. That is, unless a person WANTS fireworks that don't bang in which case then they are an advantage.
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

but do you honestly expect an importer to stamp "new spec" items with "smaller, less powerful, quieter"

In some ways "new spec" can be turned into a positive- "Wonderful pretty colours, with a family freindly "no bang" burst" (for example.)

The objection from the original poster was that he was sold fireworks which were marketed as (and I'll quote it) "very loud reports", "very loud bangs", "thunderous finale" etc but these didn't live up to his expectations.

Most of the Menshun stuff I bought last year was rubbish (branded Guy Fawkes from JTF). On a positive, the Fireworks International range was excellent (even the cheaper stuff such as black widow & cheeky cherries)

There was a lot of Men Shun stuff last year that wasn't sold by JTF.

What JTF were really offering was a small range of fireworks , or rather a small range of effects used across the range in various fireworks.

It lacked the variation in effects and firing style of (say) the 2007 Brothers range, or Kimbolton's range.

I think the thing is that if someone buys fireworks that are (to borrow that line) "Smaller , less powerful , quieter " without that fact being made clear then he will certainly think twice about ever buying them again.

Men Shun's 2007 range being a great example - same packaging, same prices, significantly reduced performance. Possibly Men Shun were simply hoping that people wouldn't notice the change.
